Shiatsu is a traditional Japanese form of therapeutic massage. It combines the theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine with modern Anatomy & Physiology. The practitioner will conduct an assessment according to TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and use techniques that include pressure, kneading and stretches. During a session the receiver lies either on a mat or low table and remains clothed. Like acupuncture, Shiatsu works to balance the Qi throughout the body, leaving the receiver feeling relaxed and revived. Shiatsu treats the whole body and has both preventative and remedial effects.
I am indebted to my teachers and the lineage that allowed me to learn this healing art. DoAnn Kaneko is the founder of Shiatsu-Anma, Carrie Pelava is the founder of the MN school that taught his style and my most influential teachers were Bonita Kosciolek, Chandler Yorkhall and Michael Casper. Thank you to all of these generous teachers.
